This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for south central Arkansas,
southwest Arkansas, north central Louisiana, northwest Louisiana,
southeast Oklahoma and northeast Texas.

.DAY ONE...Today and Tonight.

Isolated to widely scattered strong to severe thunderstorms will be
possible, mainly this evening and mainly north and west of the I-30
Corridor which includes far Northeast Texas and adjacent sections of
Southeast Oklahoma. Large hail and damaging thunderstorm wind gusts
would be the main threats, if and when these thunderstorms develop
and move into the Middle Red River Valley of Northeast Texas and
Southeast Oklahoma later this evening. Otherwise, no hazardous
weather is expected.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Wednesday through Monday.

Strong to severe thunderstorms will be possible across much of the
region on Wednesday, continuing through late Thursday into Thursday
Night as a series of disturbances moves our way. Damaging wind gusts
and large hail appear to be the main threats along with locally heavy
rainfall which could result in some isolated flooding threats,
especially across low lying and flood prone areas near and north of
the I-30 Corridor.

Small thunderstorm chances remain in the forecast for the upcoming
Memorial Holiday Weekend with hot temperatures as well during the
afternoon. Heat indices both Saturday and Sunday will likely reach
the triple digits across some areas. A cold front should move
through the region on Memorial Day or Monday Night, bringing with it
additional thunderstorm chances.

Spotter activation may become necessary across far Southeast Oklahoma
and Northeast Texas this evening.

large hail up to baseball size and locally damaging winds will be
possible with the strongest storms. A limited to elevated threat
of tornadoes will also exist through early evening hours with
locations across far northeast Oklahoma into northwest Arkansas
being the most favorable. Storms will weaken by the early morning

rapid onset flash flooding for portions of southeast Oklahoma and

Another round of strong to severe thunderstorms is expected
Thursday afternoon and evening as an upper level storm system
moves across the area. Locally heavy rainfall will again be
possible at this time.

An active weather pattern will continue through the weekend with
periodic storm chances. As of now, it appears the best chance for
severe storms over the weekend will be Saturday evening and
overnight.

331 PM CDT Tue May 21 2024

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for a Large Part of Arkansas.

.DAY ONE...This Afternoon and Tonight

Breezy southerly winds have driven temperatures to well above
average levels this afternoon, creating an unstable environment.
Thunderstorms have developed over eastern Oklahoma, moving into
western Arkansas, and will build over northern and central
Arkansas this evening before weakening. Scattered thunderstorms
may become severe, with large hail and damaging winds the main
concerns.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Wednesday through Monday

An unsettled pattern continues for Arkansas through the weekend.
Thunderstorms are forecast each day, with severe thunderstorms
possible at times.

An increased potential for strong to severe thunderstorms is
expected Wednesday for a large portion of the state. Very large
hail and damaging winds are the primary threats with the
strongest storms, and there could be an isolated tornado or two.
Much will depend on how much development occurs in the morning,
and if clouds and rain curb afternoon heating. A lack of heating
would keep the atmosphere somewhat stable, and make severe
weather less likely.

Areas of heavy rainfall are in the forecast through Friday morning.
Amounts may exceed 3 inches in places, leading to an increased
threat of flash flooding.

.Spotter Information Statement...

Spotter activation will not be needed.
